Coastal Environments (CE) is a small-business enterprise (SBE) formed in 1988 by Dr. Hany Elwany, a coastal engineer and oceanographer, to provide high-quality environmental consulting services. CE is a unique multidisciplinary oceanographic and engineering consulting firm comprised of more than thirty experienced, independent professionals who work as a team and specialize in a variety of interrelated technical services. This approach increases flexibility and facilitates communication with clients, especially the rapid, close communications required for the timely and successful completion of work. The approach also improves quality and cost-effectiveness.

From our full-service office in southern California, we provide the following interrelated services: Physical Oceanography, Hazardous Materials & Waste, Coastal Engineering & Coastal Management Processes, Data Analysis & Numerical Modeling, Marine Geology, Environmental Education, Biological Monitoring, Literature Reviews & Critiques, Environmental Impact Assessments.

Our team of 30+ professionals consists of oceanographers, coastal engineers, marine geologists and biologists, environmental scientists, engineering geologists, and computer programmers, all of whom are experts in their fields. Many have ties to universities, such as Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD, and all maintain a significant technical library of published and unpublished scientific literature.

CE has conducted projects all over the world, including the United States, Mexico, the Middle East, the United Kingdom, South America, and north Africa. Our associates are versed in many languages, including English, Spanish, Arabic, and German. CE possesses a strong commitment to its clients, which include private industry, municipalities, state and federal agencies, private foundations, and nongovernmental organizations. Recent clients have included Southern California Edison, the Trump Organization/Irongate Wilshire LLC, the Cities of San Diego, Carlsbad, and Del Mar, the California Coastal Commission, California Department of Parks and Recreation, U.S. Agency for International Development, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. and Egyptian navies, Southwest Wetlands Interpretive Association, and Los Peñasquitos Lagoon Foundation.

In addition, CE is a trade representative (agent) for several oceanographic instrumentation firms and has many colleagues who serve as technical advisors available to assist in the implementation of various field studies.
