Harbor Beach

History, Width, and Stability of Harbor Beach, Oceanside, California
Coastal Environments investigated the beach stability, and coastal processes at Harbor Beach. The history of beach width from 1942 to 1998 was reviewed. Beach width has varied from a minimum of 300 feet to a maximum of 600 feet in the area. The observed beach width changes included seasonal changes and long-term fluctuations from flooding and major wave storms.

A geotechnical study was conducted to assess material underlying the sand surface. Impacts of the parking lot expansion and construction of the Pfleger Marine Institute and Interpretive Center on beach, shoreline, and recreational beach use were assessed. Protection measures for construction were recommended.
